Leptospirosis is caused by Leptospira.
Leptospira belongs to the family Spirochaetaceae. There are two species, among which Leptospira interroans is a parasite of humans and animals. It is divided into 18 serum groups, and there are more than 160 serotypes under the group. Among them, L. pomona, L. canicola, L. tarassovi, L. icterohemorhaiae, and L. hippotyphosa seven day fever group are important pathogenic bacteria of domestic animals. Some herds can be infected with several serogroups and serotypes at the same time. The disease is prevalent in countries all over the world and also in China. It is common in coastal areas and provinces south of the Yangtze River.
